Community

At St Mary’s in Brymbo, we like to make strong links within the local community so they can share their experiences with the children.

On a weekly basis, our children visit Pen Y Garth Nursing home during wellbeing clubs. The children interact with the residents, working alongside them in the surrounding gardens. When the weather is unfavourable, the children play boards with the residents indoors.

Our children are also encouraged to look after their local surroundings, with teams of children litter picking regularly.

The children throughout the school also regularly visit Kev’s Café at the Brymbo Heritage Site. The most recent Mantel of the Expert approach has seen the children taking orders and learning about our local café environment in a meaningful way.

Volunteers from the Brymbo Heritage Site visit school regularly and also and invite our children to participate in a range of activities such as planting and harvesting vegetables. The volunteers also help support during forest school sessions, enabling our children to visit Miller Fields and trips to the beach.
