Community / Cymuned

At St Mary’s in Brymbo, we value strong links with our local community to help our children develop a real sense of ‘cynefin’, belonging and connection to their surroundings.

As part of our wellbeing activities, pupils visit Pen Y Garth Nursing Home to spend time with residents, helping in the gardens or playing board games indoors when the weather is poor.

We also work closely with volunteers from the Brymbo Heritage Site, who visit school regularly and invite our learners to take part in activities such as planting, harvesting, and supporting Forest School sessions at Miller Fields and beyond.

These experiences enrich our curriculum and strengthen our children’s understanding of community, heritage, and the world around them.

This morning, Helen from Stori Brymbo visited us to talk about the hive‑decorating project that our learners will be helping with. This exciting opportunity allows our pupils to work closely with members of our local community, strengthening our sense of ‘cynefin’ and celebrating the unique identity of Brymbo. Through this project, learners will contribute creatively to a shared community space while deepening their understanding of belonging and connection.

Mr Williams took the children to Brymbo Squash Club, where they had the opportunity to take part in an active and enjoyable session. The children were well behaved, enthusiastic, and thoroughly enjoyed trying something new. Thank you to Mr Williams and Brymbo Squash Club for a great experience.

Remembrance Day 2025

Our whole school visited the local cenotaph to pay respects and remember those who served. Together, we reflected on their sacrifice and honoured their memory with gratitude and silence.

Dosbarth Powys visit the Brymbo Enterprise Centre

Our class explored the local community to deepen our sense of cynefin—understanding our place and connections. We met Kev at the cafe and enjoyed some toast. We also visited the post office to post our letters to Father Christmas.

We’ve made so many wonderful community visits with different classes over the years, each one helping our learners discover, connect and grow.
